5 Questions About Buying from MDHearingAid, Answered!

We know shopping for hearing aids can be a bit confusing, especially when you’re shopping online without the advice of an audiologist. To help make ordering as simple as possible, we’ve answered some questions that we hear most frequently below. 

What is the 45-day trial period?

With the assistance of doctors and an audiologist, we’ve designed hearing devices to help the majority of people with hearing loss, from mild to moderately-severe. That being said, until you try a hearing aid in your daily routine, it’s hard to know for sure if it will work for you and your lifestyle. That’s why we include a 45-day risk-free trial and a 100% money-back guarantee with all of our hearing aids. You have 45 days to try them where you’ll use them—at home, in church, running errands, in restaurants with friends, etc.

Did you know that it can take three full weeks for your brain to adjust to the sounds of a new hearing aid? Putting on a hearing aid isn’t the same as putting on a new pair of glasses, where the issue is immediately corrected. When first wearing a hearing aid, it is completely normal to find some background sounds unusually loud, like your feet on the ground or the water running in the sink. Once your brain experiences these sounds on a daily basis, it will filter them out and they will fade back into the background like they do with normal hearing. This phenomenon is why we require a minimum 21-day trial on our hearing aids before a full refund. Until you have tried the devices for that amount of time, you may not be able to know if the devices will work for you.

Why is MDHearingAid so much cheaper than retail clinics?

In order to keep our prices at an absolute minimum, we are an online/mail order company. So unlike brick-and-mortar retail hearing clinics, we do not have the high overhead of renting real estate or the time of in-house medical professionals to administer lengthy hearing tests and fitting appointments. There are obviously benefits of going to an audiologist, especially if your hearing loss is severe or occurred over a short period of time, or you think you may require the one-on-one support that you can only get in person. We will always recommend you get the best hearing aid that you can afford, as your hearing is an invaluable connection to the world around you. If you have the time and money, we would strongly recommend you visit your local audiologist and compare their solutions to our over-the-counter devices.  

If I order today, how long does the shipping process take?

Free standard shipping is included with any hearing aid purchase in the USA. If you order Monday–Friday before noon EST, your order will ship that day. Items ordered on holidays, weekends, or after noon are shipped the next business day. 

All of our orders ship from our logistic warehouse in Southfield, Michigan. Depending on how far you live from us, it may affect how long your hearing aid takes to reach you, but you should expect arrival within 3–7 business days. We do offer some Express shipping options for an extra charge if you want your hearing aids sooner.

What is the warranty?

All of of our hearing aids come with a 90-day manufacturer’s warranty against any defects in materials and workmanship. We also have an extended warranty, the MDShield Protection Plan, available if you want to extend your protection and peace of mind to a full year. This also covers any accidental damage, in case you wear your hearing aids in the shower or your dog decides to use them as a chew toy.

If you buy a pair of hearing aids, we provide you with FREE MDShield Protection Plans for both of your hearing aids. That’s up to $199.99 in free protection depending on which hearing aid you select!

What is included in the extended warranty?

The MDShield Protection Plan covers 100% of damage to your hearing aids for a full year after purchase. Water damage from the rain, battery corrosion from excessive moisture, damage to the device from being run over by a car—you name it, we cover it, as long as you can return the damaged devices to us. We will then repair or replace your device, sending it back to you at no charge.

Please note, this protection plan does not cover loss or theft, so make sure you don’t misplace your damaged device. You will need to ship it back to us in order to receive coverage. Also, make sure to contact MDHearingAid immediately for the correct return authorization number and instructions, so we can process your return or repair as efficiently as possible.

Do I need two hearing aids?

If you have two ears with hearing loss, we would almost always suggest using two hearing aids. Your brain is used to hearing sounds from both ears at the same time and at the same volume. With only one hearing aid, the sound will not be balanced, background noise is harder to distinguish from conversations, and you won’t know what direction sounds are coming from.

Since studies suggest hearing aid users are more satisfied when they wear two devices, and we want to have the best chance of success with your new hearing aids, we provide a bonus when you purchase a pair of hearing aids. In addition to your aids, you receive two free Protection Plans and free batteries. If you end up finding that you don’t need two hearing aids, you can always return just one and keep the batteries as a thank you for trying.
