Has lack of affordable over-the-counter hearing aids prevented you from getting the hearing help you need? That’s changing, thanks to new FDA guidelines.
New FDA hearing aid guidelines
The FDA has announced it will no longer require individuals over 18 years of age to receive a medical evaluation or sign a waiver prior to purchasing most hearing aids. The FDA also announced its commitment to creating a category for over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids that could open the way for innovative and lower-cost products becoming available to millions of consumers.
Do you need hearing aids?
This is great news for anyone considering purchasing hearing aids for themselves or loved ones. Americans are working and living longer, and the need for affordable hearing aids will continue to increase. 30 million Americans suffer from some form of hearing loss; yet fewer than 1-in-5 get the hearing aids they need to live fuller, richer lives because most hearing aids are expensive.
The number of Americans in need of hearing aids will continue to grow; approximately 10,000 Americans turn 65 every single day. It is worth noting that 25% of Americans over the age of 60 have some degree of hearing loss. That jumps to more than 50% for those over the age of 70, and up to 75% for those 80 and older.
