MDHearingAid – Types of Hearing Loss

“There are two major types of hearing loss: conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss.

Conductive hearing loss involves sound getting from the outside environment into the inner ear nerve apparatus. Sensorineural hearing loss is a problem with the nerve itself.

Within these categories, there are levels of severity of loss, such as mild, moderate, moderately-severe, severe, and profound. The vast majority of people have hearing loss that is mild, moderate, or moderately-severe. MDHearingAid products are designed to help about 85 percent of those people in those categories with their hearing loss, whether it’s conductive hearing loss or sensorineural or a mix of the two.”
