Common Questions. Clear Answers.
From hearing aid features to support and care, find answers to common questions about MDHearing.
How do I know if it’s time to upgrade my hearing aids?
Most hearing aids last about 3 to 7 years, but your needs—and the technology—can change sooner.
You may want to upgrade if you’ve noticed:
More difficulty hearing in noisy environments
Volume needing constant adjustment
Feedback or sound issues
Shorter battery life or unreliable performance
Your hearing aids just don’t feel as effective as they used to
Changes in your health or lifestyle
Even if your hearing aids still work, you may want to explore newer technology. As with all technology, hearing aids improve quickly, offering smaller devices, clearer sound, better noise reduction, and more convenient features such as Bluetooth. New technology and even small upgrades can make a noticeable difference in your everyday life.
Will the hearing aids fit my ears?
MDHearing hearing aids are designed to fit comfortably and discreetly for most adults. We offer behind-the-ear and in-the-ear options, both of which are small, lightweight, and made to feel secure throughout the day—many people even forget they’re wearing them.
Each device includes components designed to match the natural shape of the ear, helping provide a comfortable fit and clear, natural sound.
If the initial fit isn’t quite right, all of our models can accommodate a variety of sizes and accessories, such as different tips or ear domes. This added flexibility allows our hearing aids to fit a wide range of ear shapes and sizes.
How are MDHearing’s prices so low?
To put it simply: MDHearing is reinventing hearing care.
Traditional brick-and-mortar hearing clinics were previously the only option for Americans to get high-quality hearing aids—which was frustrating, complex, and shockingly expensive. There’s a markup from the manufacturers to the clinics, and then another markup from the hearing clinic to the customer. Buying hearing aids this way also requires multiple visits just to get the devices in hand, and additional appointments for fittings and maintenance.
The reality is, buying from a hearing clinic is simply not possible for customers on a budget.
Knowing how crucial high-quality hearing is, our founder set out to manufacture an affordable hearing solution that could help the majority of hearing loss patients. By removing the middlemen and overhead costs of brick-and-mortar businesses, MDHearing is able to offer high-quality hearing aids with the same level of support offered by hearing clinics—at just a fraction of the cost.
Say goodbye to long wait times and multiple appointments. Say hello to a new era of personalized care, where your hearing health is at the center of everything we do.
Do I need to wear two hearing aids?
The brain processes signals from both ears for improved clarity and balanced sound. If you have hearing loss in both ears you will be able to hear much better with two hearing aids—and your satisfaction with those hearing aids will be much higher. If you only use one hearing aid, but have hearing loss in both ears, your brain has to process two different sound and clarity levels, which makes the sound signal more difficult to understand.
My hearing has changed—what should I do?
Start with our quick (and free) online hearing test—and then connect with our team.
The online hearing test can be completed from the comfort of home and only takes about 5-10 minutes. You’ll get personalized information on your hearing instantly, and also have the option to schedule a consultation with one of our licensed hearing professionals. We’ll help you figure out whether there’s a simple adjustment to your existing hearing aids or if a new device makes more sense.
What if something happened to my hearing aids?
MDHearing Warranty
MDHearing hearing aids have a standard 1-year warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. After that year, if needed, we can replace hearing aids with the same aid (fees may apply). In the event that we cannot provide an exact replacement due to availability, we can offer a 10% off loyal customer discount. Please contact Customer Support for instructions and pricing information.
MDHearing Protection
If you selected one of our Protection or Care Plans, you’re covered against all accidental damage and may also be covered against loss (depending on the plan you selected). As long as your Protection or Care Plan subscription is active, we will replace your hearing aids with a new working set in the event they no longer function properly. For replacement instructions, please contact Customer Service.
How do MDHearing’s personalized hearing aid models work?
Our Bluetooth-enabled, customizable models—the NEO XS PRO and VOLT MAX 2—provide a custom-fit comparable to those in a clinic, but from the comfort of home (no prescriptions or clinic visits needed).
The MDHearing app first walks you through a simple, quick personalization process and then automatically adjusts the hearing aids for your specific hearing. You can also adjust settings based on your environment and preferences with simple controls on the device or directly from your smartphone via Bluetooth.
Why does everything sound loud or jarring?
Hearing is a partnership between your ears and brain. Unlike eyeglasses, where clarity is instant, hearing is a more gradual process. When you start wearing hearing aids, your brain is reintroduced to sounds it may not have heard clearly in a while—and it needs time to relearn how to interpret and process those sounds.
In the first week, everyday sounds may seem louder, distracting, or even jarring—like the hum of the refrigerator, your footsteps, or even your own voice. This is completely normal as your brain adapts and figures out what to focus on.
Many people notice significant improvement within a few weeks. Sounds begin to feel more natural and conversations require less effort. However, everyone adjusts at their own pace. The key is consistency: the more you wear your hearing aids, the faster your brain adapts. It’s a lot like retraining a muscle that has not been used in a while. Stick with it—the long-term benefits far outweigh this short adjustment period.
