Why is a hearing test important for your patients?

Why is a hearing test important for your patients?

Untreated hearing loss is serious. Research shows that hearing loss has serious negative health consequences.

  • Hearing loss affects over half of Americans aged 70-79.
  • This increases to more than 80% for those aged 80 and up.
  • Even just mild hearing loss doubles the risk of dementia.
  • Hearing aids have been shown to slow cognitive decline in people at high risk of dementia by almost 50% over a 3-year period, providing strong evidence that treating hearing loss is crucial for cognitive health and reducing risk of dementia.

Dual Sensory Impairment (DSI)

Around 20% of adults aged 70+ have both vision and hearing impairments. When both are impaired, the impact of each is magnified and the patient is impacted on a much greater scale.

By correcting both vision and hearing, patients can reduce the following risks:

  • An 8-fold increased risk of dementia
  • Increased risk for falls and related injuries
  • Poorer physical function and vitality
  • Poorer mental and social well-being

How does it work?

01

In-store hearing test

You offer a quick, easy, and free hearing test, which is completed independently by the patient via an iPad and headphones located in the store (provided by MDHearing).

This can be administered right after a vision test in the same exam room and only takes 5 to 8 minutes to complete.

Click here to try the hearing test for yourself.

02

At-home telehealth consultation

Once the hearing test is completed, the patient can use the iPad to schedule a telehealth consultation to discuss their results with a licensed hearing professional.

Consultations do not occur while the patient is in the optical store. They are scheduled for a later time and are done from the comfort of their own home.

03

Commission payout

The patient then continues along the regular path of optical treatment without interruption to your patient flow.

You’ll receive commission for every scheduled consultation (as well as additional commission for hearing aid sales)!
